Travis Kelce’s dad launches fresh attack on Kanye West
Travis Kelce’s father Ed has launched another attack on Kanye West after the rapper mentioned the Chiefs star and girlfriend Taylor Swift in a new song.
Ed Kelce had said West has ‘mental illness on full display’ on his Facebook page, responding to a DailyMail.Com story about West’s new lyrics on Aug. 8.
‘I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce,’ Wayne raps on his verse of the song, which appears on West’s album, Vultures 2.
Now, Ed has revisited the topic on his Facebook page, saying: ‘I feel the need to clarify that my comment on Kanye West was not so much a criticism as it was my thoughts on his mental health.
‘His behaviors and comments beyond Taylor indicate a paranoia and over-inflated sense of self worth. While it would be easy to attribute his actions to drug use, throughout history there’s been no shortage of clean and sober people displaying the same traits.
‘This is a talented guy and hopefully he’s getting help with these issues.’
It comes 15 years after West began feuding with Swift when he jumped on stage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards and interrupted her acceptance speech for Best Female Video.
At the time, he declared the honor should have gone to Beyoncé instead, which launched a years-long feud between himself and the Love Story songstress.
The troubled hip hop artist later spoke her name in his 2016 track, Famous. He rapped, ‘I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that b**tch famous.’
When the Shake It Off hitmaker objected to the crude lyric, West doubled down and claimed he had received her permission to do so.
His then-wife, Kim Kardashian, chimed in by sharing a video of a supposed phone call between the two. However, it was later revealed that it had been edited to back West’s version of events.
Swift appeared to target Kardashian on her latest record – Tortured Poets Department – with the song ‘thanK you aIMee’ where she capitalizes the letters spelling ‘KIM’.
Swift is currently rounding off her four-month European Eras Tour dates in London this weekend, while Chiefs star Travis is in Kansas City preparing for the new NFL season.
Kelce could play as much as half of the Chiefs warmup game against Detroit Lions on Saturday, with the season starting on September 5 against Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs go into the new season bidding to become the first team in the history of the NFL to win three straight Super Bowl titles.
